A Word to the Wise

Dr. Walter Olsen

What is the message of the Bible believing church to the world today?

Of course, the message and ministry of the church would include many things. However, one thing is essential. One thing cannot be avoided or neglected without losing the mission of the church. The Apostle Paul made it clear when he said to the Corinthian church, "For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified" (I Cor. 2:2). Indeed, the message of the church to the world is the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The church has no other essential message than the message of salvation in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. A church may be involved in many other things, but none is as important as the proclaiming of salvation in the Savior. Unfortunately, many churches have turned from the message of the cross to other things, things that may be good in themselves but do not present the plan of salvation. Where that is the case, people fail to hear their one hope of eternal salvation, the message of the cross.
