Dr. Walter Olsen

Can a man think himself to be right and still be wrong?

Yes! This is especially true in one’s relationship to God. The Bible says, "Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts" (Prov. 21:2). It is what is in the heart that is crucially important to God. Yet, most men do not consider this as of any real significance and so they go on living their lives and making plans for the future according to their own thinking. In spite of all the evidence about them to the contrary, they think their own way is superior to God’s and they have no need for Him! They live as if there were no God. Tragically, the man who continues to resist God will one day have to realize that, "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" ( Prov. 16:25). Still, there is hope for the one who is willing to acknowledge his sins and turn to Christ for forgiveness. There is no more important message in the world than the need for forgiveness! Only then will man’s thinking be true and acceptable to God.
